Reflections on Lake Brandt – Steps on the Land

In two movements, it is a tonal poem that was inspired by the beautiful reservoir just north of my former school, the Greensboro Day school. Lake Brandt is one in a series of several lakes that supply water for Greensboro, NC. All are protected and surrounded by wonderful trails with beautiful views. The lake is not far from the school, and I often visited and walked the trails around this beautiful lake as a retreat from the hustle and bustle of school life.

“Steps on the Land” is inspired by the many walks I took on the Nat Greene Trail, as it winds its’ way up and down the landscape that surrounds the lake. Written for four cellos, suitable or mature players, high school to adult. Meant to be played second after Wind in the Water, I recommend you buy both.
